ManUp (PS3 WAR Exploit Fix)

ManUp

The ManUp Mutator prevents shaped charges from doing damage to nodes & cores.  It works around the bug in the PS3 version of UT3 that allows you to inflict damage on opponents' nodes and core with a shaped charge even when they're not vulnerable to regular weapon fire. It is generally accepted that using the shaped charge this way is cheating and nobody wants to be a cheater ;-)

Originally, I just removed all shaped charges.  However, charges do have legit uses such as blowing up barricades and, my favorite, sneaking up behind a tank, planting the charge on top, and ending an "unearned" killing spree. So the latest version of ManUp just prevents charges from damaging nodes or cores.

I still have not figured out how to prevent the avalanche cheat or allow them to damage vulnerable nodes... those changes may come in a future version but I've got a bunch of other things on my to-do list ahead of that.  I also think it would be cool to have it instantly kill the person who drops it on an invulnerable node or an opponent's barricade.

Shaped Charge

How come using the shaped charge on nodes in frowned upon? Do you consider it cheating if you use the charge on a node in the order you would have to go if you used an orb? I ask because I currently, albeit rarely, use the shaped charge on Downtown to destroy nodes my team is attacking.

that's fair use

I think using it on nodes that are vulnerable is fair... a wise tactic in fact... and I do want to eventually change the mod to allow that... I just have not figured out how to do that yet.

ManUp (PS3 Exploit Fix)

To our lead GodsOfWarfare Developer AKA Paulie,

Nice work.  As we discussed yesterday I know this is on the back-burner for now (rightfully so) but I'm glad you're letting the community know that you're still on top of this.  You're original "Bug Fix" was delivered immediatly after our discovery... like within a couple hours!

All I know is you are beating Epic to the punch and as I said yesterday; someone should forward this to Mark Rein or Jeff Morris.  I'm going to start a petition to get you on the Payroll & get me my Dedicated Server Fixes & Web Admin.  LOL

Ok my pipe dream is over.  Back to reality!!  I was tempted to add (PS3 Exploit Fix) to the title of your post but I'll leave that up to you.  In a few days when this is no longer displaying on the frontpage - I'll demote it and make it a sticky in the Mutator lounge.  So feel free to edit your original post as your thoughts or code progresses.

All hail the ManUp Mutator - AKA the anti-bitch-ass-ness mod!

Using shaped charges to

Using shaped charges to destroy enemy nodes/core is not frowned opon. It's attacking your enemy prime node/core when your nodes are UNLINKED...that is cheating! -Killa

*I would love to see a no spider mine mutator... I know it’s not cheating, but I hate them! Getting kills for nothing...it takes no skill and doesn't help you tactically because people can still get around them. When it comes down to it they're just plain annoying!
*slow energy field, and emp mines are lame too! rant, rant, rant!

Anything people hate...

is usually something the other team should be doing.

rofl @ "unearned killing spree" and spider mines not helping "tactically"

Using a vehicle for a killing spree doesn't make it unearned.  Damn it, Noot, quit running me over.

Spider mines do help "tactically" when placed correctly - even without being spawn-killers.  Put them and the EMP mine strategically on Avalanche between Center and Enemy Prime and you'll stop all the Scorpions or Mantas, knock the Orb Runner down, get kills, keep the other team from attacking a Node your team holds, give extra time to press the attack, etc.

small giggle @ "opponent's barricade"

Just laughing at the phrase.  I can see why people don't like the avalanche taking down unlinked nodes, but the idea that barricade's have ownership still makes me laugh - like each team makes theirs out of some special composite that the other team's shape charge shouldn't explode.  I don't see why the barricades in Downtown should have ownership, since if I were in a vehicle, I would find it advantageous to have both of them removed - making it easier to line my Scorpion up with Center Node.

*rant rant rant rant*
