WAR-BeerBattle_Beta 4 (PC)

This is one of the last version before going final.  Not many changes left.  Lots of fun particle emitters in this one!

Name: BeerBattle
Version: Beta 4
Compatibility: Patch 2.0
Description: A remake of ONS-BeerBattle.  Four rooms, each with a core or node connected by narrow tunnels.  It's basically a giant spam-fest with enough people.
Comments: I made this map just for fun.  It's full of fantasy themes that have no reason for existence and are unconnected in any way.  I was just having fun making it.

Changes since last beta:
-Dragons now breath fire
-Core destruct sequences
-Added orb
-Removed podium underneath core to prevent stalemates.
-Added hoverboard boosters in the center tunnel to give the winning team some positive feedback and help reduce stalemates.

Things remaining to be done:
-Kill volume for the dragon fire?
-Minimap texture
-Map pic texture

Note:  The entire map is made up of grey textures.  Except for emissives, all color in this map is from lights.

Thanks Sos... I just added this map to our server. This is going to be a fun matrix map... like DeathDome.

Sorry to hear you're calling it quits but I don't blame you. It is a shame that more people don't play custom maps.

We were just talking about custom maps the other day, and how we would love to play more of them but we're too lazy to start up a server these days - if that would even be effective.  Do you guys get together on a regular schedule to play?  We should set up a weekly custom event like the NE clan does in Europe.

Yup Yup. Every Sunday at 8pm est - 2 am or whenever people want to leave. I think this is a great idea and we should start spreading the word on epic and on other Unreal sites to revive this game with custom content. Having a weekly scheduled game with custom maps is a must! lets get errrrrr done boys. Would you want to use our server to host this shiznit or someone else's?  Ours is always up to date with the latest maps(thank you Pacer) and it runs pretty damn smooth too. Either way lets try and get this weekly event happening. Thx for the post Sos. Ill be sure to try this beauty tonight

Thanks man :).  I think your server would be best, as you said it's already up to date with the latest maps.  Plus no one clan does more for custom content than you guys - you deserve the thunder!  Do you have a map pack?  If not I can put one together in the next few days.  All the maps are here on your website, so it's easy to find!

Im not sure if every map that we have is up to date on our site but it definetly is on our ftp. Let me figure out what maps we are hosting and what versions the maps are currently on and we will put that map pack together hopefully in a couple of days. Harmerty's our map pack man so dont worry about it Sos. Right Harm :P ..thx buuuuuuuuddy

I'm just not a big fan of map packs... I say just educate people about the cache converter and let UT3 do the downloading for you. We use uz3 compression on our server so you save a little time (sometimes a lot) that way and installation automatic.

I would not recommend doing a map pack that contains any beta or RC maps and even so-called final maps are often "remixed" as OE, SE, etc. versions. We've done three or four map packs so far and they're HUGE downloads that are only up-to-date for a week or two... as soon as one map in the pack is re-released the whole pack is "spoiled".

Just my opinion... we should do what we used to do for PS3 which is pick three or four maps that we're going to focus on each week so people can pre-load them using the redirect & cache converter. We can also provide download links if people want to do it the hard way.

my suggestion look at the WAR-OMIKRON map. its the train war map..;)

he did a very cool core explosion at the end maybe you could study what he did?

reverse engineer! lol ( get it? train....-engineer... nvm ...)

 

by the way, how many maps DID you make? im proud to have YOUR MAP in my collection!

i LOVE the modded mapsit extends the life of the game because i like new stuff all the time.

if i ever learn the trick to making these perhaps ill do some as well i have alot of ideas

Slippster!  Mah bro!!  Long time buddy, I thought you'd stopped playing UT3. I'm glad you're still around!  Sadly, the online community is shrinking beyond recognition, so you may find it's not so rewarding to play online these days.  The only games to be had are stock only games at the Official Epic servers - which are full of racists and assholes.  Seems like every time I play these days someone's either cussing at everyone or spamming racist crap.  And I'm not an admin there like I was at UMG, so I can't do anything about it (sad face).

I've made three maps so far that were released publically.  My first was WAR-CarPark - entertaining to play a couple times but very limited in it's imagination.  I was just learning the editor and I'm of the opinion that you should release every map regardless of quality so the community can have more stuff to goof around with.  Then I made WAR-Maelstrom, which is a remake of a 2004 ONS map.  It's lots of fun to play - plenty of nodes, vehicles and goodies for everyone.

You should try the editor out.  It's not as hard as it can seem.  It's just very, very time consuming.  There's a number of good tutorials already made.  I'll gladly give you the links to everything you need to get started if you're really interested.

i love the way that map runs faster because of the doubling of the node times

its a marathon for sure, and a satifying win

i loved that in 2K4, one of my alll time faves, you did a good job of keeping it just like 2k4

i love all the old map remakes coming out, it makes me feel like im "home" hehe

its like i get in there and im like "hey i know where i am!"

car park is fun too i already have both of those installed and been playin em.

i used to make mod maps for Tachyon ( the fringe) and i know what you mean about making maps for 10 ppl lol

Hey guys, I updated this map.  I added hoverboard boosters in the center tunnel as well as an orb.  I also removed the podium under the cores, so they can now be struck actually from in the prime node.  This should reduce boring stalemates.  But once they cap your prime with the orb, they're just gonna lock it and link up to take down you core instantly, you say?  Well, I put in some kismet that moves your orb spawn back to your prime if you cap the enemy prime.  So, you can still lock it, you just have to get the orb back there again.  Good luck getting the orb through the spam tunnel anyway.  Plus, if this does happen, I have now placed a redeemer in the core areas that will allow for fun comebacks, but only once every 2 mins!  Overall I think these changes should really spice up the gameplay a little bit.

I hooked up the fire breathing dragons in kismet.  Now, when you attack a prime node the dragon gets pissed and breaths fire.  I will probably be adding a damage volume just for fun.  I also finished tooling the core destruct sequence - wow what a pain in the butt!  It's my first one, so it was rather annoying learning how to do it.  I'm so proud I went and made a 17MB animated GIF to show people - sorry for making you DL it! lol
