Map Compression Trick

I found a nice trick that allows you to UZ3 compress maps very easily... just right click on a .ut3, .upk, or .u file in Windows Explorer and select "compress" in the context menu.

UZ3 compression is a way to download maps and mods from a redirect quicker... think of it as UT3's built-in zip format. Normally, you have to use the command-line to compress packages with UT3.

This trick adds data to your registry that Windows Explorer uses to create the context menus when you right-click on a file. I can't take full credit here. I started with the information posted here.

Woolvie Plays Downtown

Each team starts with 1 Manta, 1 Scorpion, 1 Hellbender, and 1 Paladin. If you have 5 or more people on your team, each of these vehicles should be taken from the core at the start of the match, though I don't really care for the Paladin.

The Manta can be used to quickly get in front of the opposing team's orb runner & squash him, to hide inside of the Enemy Prime Node before it is built preventing it from being built, or to establish a defense at Center Node.

Open Sourcing the GOW Mutators **UPDATED**

I think we should make the source code for our mutators available on our website. Several reasons:

  1. We incorporate ideas and code from other open source mutators... it is only fair to return the favor. We'd be nowhere without the help of Epic and other mod developers.
  2. Most of the source code can be extracted from PC mutator files anyway... there's no real secrets in unrealscript.
  3. It helps to have the eyes of other developers on our code. It would be great to have someone take the orb and run with it!
  4. When people want this or that tweak it is easier to just say "here's the source, go for it".
