More good stuff from Hourences this week. First up a trio of new tutorials that deal directly with topics related to Epic Games' newly released Unreal Development Kit.
- UE3 FRACTURE MESHES - How to make meshes that can be shot into pieces using the Fracture Mesh system.
- UE3 LIGHTMASS - Introduction to using the LightMass system.
- UE3 SOFT PHYSICS - How to use soft physics in UE3.
You'll also find a newly created UDK job section, which should be of interest to the many teams already delving into the UDK. Submit your "job" and Hourences will see to it that it gets posted.
A gold mine of Kismet and Unreal ED snippets:
I made a library of over 30 Kismet and UnrealEd setups, converted those to text, and then put that text on my website. You can now copy paste that "snippet" and ctrl+v it directly in to the editor or Kismet, and you have the thing. So for example: One of the snippets contains an example where a light changes color through matinee. Instead of making that by hand, you can copy paste mine in and save time, or learn from it. Basically I have about 30 Kismet examples up people can paste in and learn from.
GameDaily's BigDownload talks with Hourences about the UDK version of The Ball. Here he discusses the standalone project:
Yes, we are going for a commercial release. We are currently aiming for spring 2010, but that may be subject to change later on. The Ball UDK Demo is basically a 40 minute long compilation level that we made using parts from our various levels. For the full game we got about six hours of gameplay planned. The full game will take you from the surface, to the ziggurat of Oztoc, from there on to the lush golden cities of Teotl, onwards through the desert of Hueca, to finally end up in Cahua deep down at the heart of the volcano.
